Safety & Staff

Safety is the number one priority!

Since 1978, Wilderness Inquiry has provided safe and rewarding experiences for more than 250,000 people. Our superlative safety record is the result of our focus on:

  • High staff to participant ratios. We maintain high staff to participant ratios to ensure excellent supervision--typically 1 to 7.

  • Thorough assessments. We review each participant's health history as well as their level of physical, cognitive and emotional ability and maturity to ensure  that they are a good fit for the experience we offer.

  • High expectations. ALP participants are held to a high standard of behavior, including the basics—no tobacco, alcohol or illegal drugs—as well as an expectation to treat each other with respect and compassion.

  • Qualified staff. ALP staff are highly skilled outdoor professionals who maintain certifications in first aid and water safety.  They are great leaders and role models!

  • Carefully planned itineraries. Every ALP trip is carefully planned and age-appropriate.

  • High quality gear. ALP maintains very high quality gear--including canoes, kayaks, vehicle and trailers.

We treat every ALP event as though our own children were participating--because, in fact, we do send our own children!
